ABOUT THE 2 NEW PRINTS

The originals are up in my current show, Okaeri: Welcome Home, at Las Positas College. (Read more about the show in my last post.) Now that I’m one year into the new title “Mama,” I appreciate the repetitive, loving acts of motherhood from my upbringing more than every before.

I painted the first in watercolor and second in ink, thinking about the challenge to create variety in the task of monotonous, daily lunch-making. The second version with sumi ink was a challenge of expressing textural variety using only ink and washes. I also switched up the order to balance the black and white piece without having the color variation.
