Nov-Dec Art Shows - Including My First Solo Show!

It all came about very quickly and it's hard to believe but I'm excited to share about current and upcoming shows!

TWO SHOWS STARTING THIS WEEK!

1. Okaeri: Welcome Home

I'm overwhelmed with gratitude and relief that my first-ever solo show is happening. Prepping for it was probably the cause of my record-long migraine, but it was definitely worth it!

About the Show:

The tradition of saying “Okaeri” in Japanese, translated as “Welcome home,” is a comforting greeting that I reflect on through painting. Home is a feeling beyond a specific address that includes language, sounds, smells, flavors, and history.  Hearing the familiar sound of cicadas in Tokyo, eating a freshly made rice ball on a road trip, or remembering places I have visited bring back those comforting feelings of home. My family is spread out across California, Tokyo, London, and the midwest, but the feeling of home travels with me whenever I see them or visit places we have spent time together.  Now that I have recently become a mother and my focus has shifted more toward the home, I consider what history, traditions, and memories will come to mean “home” for our daughter.

Here's a peek at a few of the paintings included in the show:

Closing reception: Week of December 13 (will follow up about the date)

2. Wisdom of the East

It was an honor to be invited to this group exhibit that shows a variety of languages and styles, all connected through calligraphy. I found photos in my phone from when I went to see one of the past Calligraphies in Conversation exhibits years ago. I didn’t anticipate getting to be part of it years later! I have 3 paintings in this show (including the one image below) and will be participating in the demo at the opening THIS SATURDAY 11/23!

I'll send an update with more details closer to the dates for the exhibits in France.

I would be honored for you to come see either local exhibit if you live anywhere close! The opening/closing receptions are great times to go since I'll definitely be there and would love to hear your feedback in person.

The exhibits are free and welcome all ages during any of the open hours. Both locations would make for a fun outing with family or friends! The Oakland exhibit is in Chinatown, and the Las Positas exhibit is one exit from outlets - good timing before Christmas. I hope to see you there!
